No, you are the one teacher, you are the one to follow yourself, follow your heart, follow what is deepest and best and most beautiful in yourself and trust those instincts. . And it's not about - follow one teacher or whoever you think the greatest exponent of mindfulness is. everywhere on the planet, you know, in NATO and all of these institutions have been or are being influenced in some sense or are looking into mindfulness in one way or another.
But if we thread the needle in this moment and then this moment and this moment, this moment through cultivating mindfulness, not just on a meditation cushion but at the UN in, you know. The light inside the darkness so to speak, is this potential that we have to actually thread this needle into a present moment, which we would call the future.
So we are talking about darkness on a lot of different levels. It defines a certain kind of shadow that feels a lot like an archetype of, you know, just evil, no concern whatsoever for indiscriminately bombing civilian populations for no reason and coming really out of the mind of one person who happens to also control nuclear weapons. But at this particular moment when Ukraine has experienced now four weeks of utter devastation and destruction, gratuitously invaded by another country. So fitting that we're doing it today, because even when we look at the seasons, we go from periods of relative light to relative darkness, again, depending on where you are on the planet and distance north or south from the equator. So it's the day after the spring equinox. "So we're doing this on March 21st (2022), I think. He goes on to describe ancient wisdom traditions and how they can inspire bravery in the face of oppression. He beautifully described how mindfulness, compassion and resiliency need to be cultivated in order to honor the darkness but avoid being consumed by it.
